6. "Toxic Masculinity" in Conversation with Lottie Moore

Today we look at the new 'toxic masculinity' training being embedded into UK schools. Lottie Moore wrote the report 'Boys and Burden of Labels' for the Family Education Trust. In it she looks at the content of these lessons and asks, is this good for boys?

TOXIC MASCULINITY AS A SUBJECT IN SCHOOLS: I have a problem with the increase of politicisation of our school children in schools wherein they are TAUGHT to see difference & to judge accordingly. Whilst we rally against this trend for girls, why not boys?

I want to raise a healthy son, but if the only message he gets is of his 'projected' deficiency what hope does he have? Boys now face THE WORST outcomes for education, for 'mental health' and the trajectory for employment is failing.

We see a demonisation of the family - which is good fathers (& mothers)- strong and stable families are good for society, why is this not the dominant message for our children? Or at least an option? Shouldn't we be telling them truth & facts?

Instead our 'Relationships education' promote promiscuity as a 'choice' therefore normalising lack of commitment & lack of stability.

Listen, I am glad that Magdalene laundries don't exist, I am glad that I - as a solo Mum - am able to raise my son w/o stigma. But I do not want the same for my child. Him being fatherless is the single most damaging thing to happen to both of us, economically and socially. And we see this play out in society.

We need to widen the conversation. And we need to be honest. Get the 'toxic masculinity' programs out of school, they are anti-child, anti-boy, and anti-society. They do nothing to address the actual issues that are purporting to and create untoward harms.
