7. Scotland vs. New Zealand: Let Kids Be Kids Conversation with Penny Marie

A Global Education Playbook Is Harming Our Kids

Today’s podcast takes us to New Zealand where I had the opportunity to speak (virtually) with

about her grassroots organisation .  Let Kids be Kids is an initiative which empowers parents to ask questions and take action about what is happening in New Zealand schools and the wider culture.

Penny and I compare notes as to the remarkable similarities between Scotland and New Zealand wherein ideology is replacing learning and the family is being undermined.  It seems, despite our geographical distance, a playbook is being enacted in both countries  where children’s needs are not being valued or met, in fact the foundational structures which lead to a healthy and functioning adult are being destroyed through government and school initiatives.

We talk through the advocacy she has achieved through her road shows in particular with

whose ‘identity disruption’ presentation I have cited many times.

I found the conversation to be really useful in understanding the wider scope of what is happening here in schools in Scotland. This is a playbook being implemented all over the world. And parents - we are the kick back.  So roll up, get your listening ears on and be prepared for action. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride….

The dangers of hyperfocus on the upper rungs
In my previous post we talked about how the foundation of identity - Basic Humanity, and Character - are critical for well-being, not only individually but also within a classroom and for all of society. Therefore, if we want to reduce discrimination and bullying of all kinds in the classroom and society, then we must concentrate on fostering a sense of…

Sexualising children?
Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) is promoted by supranational institutions such as UNESCO, the World Health Organisation (WHO), and the European Parliament. It is taught in countries around the world as part of the formal school curriculum. As such, it is a powerful intervention into children’s lives. Proponents of CSE argue it is an effective me…
