My wife was looking for ante-natal classes recently. Our borough (in London) provides them, but only for black women. It's shocking that they're allowed to do this.

So many people on the anti-racism summit leaflet are Muslim, so no surprise that it links racism to "Islamophobia" (a made-up word for prejudice against a multi-racial group) and not antisemitism (hatred, often genocidal, for one particular ethnic group and often found among, ahem, a particular religious community).

Segregation is illegal. Unfortunately there is little/no muscle to stop these things from happening. And you are right on the push to normalise the claims to 'Islamophobia'. Perhaps the most worrying trend in all this is that - like the story of the boy who cried wolf - making *everything* that is perceived as critical to individuals who may be included under the Islam or BIPOC/BAME etc umbrella is that people will turn off to the claims and there will be greater vulnerability to actual harms that may be done. If everything is racist, nothing is racist. And also people will self select to not integrate with people who are different to themselves for fear of being called out for some perceived injustice. It's just a terrible way to live. And yes that anti-semitism is glossed over is telling. Also the anti-Christian stuff. To me this signifies a need to try and create genuine and meaningful relationships even more. It's hard though.

(and as a side note: congrats on impending parenthood!! And happy birthday vibes!! I had a marvellous home birth with my son. I learned to say to people 'no bad birth stories'! People love to share their terrible experiences (not helpful, I think it's cathartic for them). Mothering has been the best (and most difficult) experience of my life. What a blessing, so pleased for you. )

I think the "crying wolf" and self-segregation scenarios are already playing out, sadly.

Thank you for your good wishes! We've got another two months to go, which in some ways seems a long time, in other ways no time at all. We need to buy nappies, clothes and furniture!
