Whoa! Heart stopping imagery here, a powerful essay. An unforgettable presentation. I, too, am so sorry for your abuse!~and I pray that every good thing comes your way in your new abode and in your new situation. Your big heart, your brave persistence for what is good, right, and just is beyond admirable.

I'm sorry you got the abuse. As someone visibly Jewish who writes about Jewish stuff, I get abuse hurled at me periodically, online and in person. It's not fun and the in-person stuff can be worrying.

The left has a developed an oppressed/oppressor binary where being considered a good or bad person has little to do with personal conduct and everything to do with race, sex and politics. If you are considered an oppressor, really any behaviour towards you can be justified as "calling out oppression." It's as rigid and as arbitrary as the racism of the far-right, but more socially acceptable.

I'm not Christian and I don't know how to dance, but the thought of you as the dancing Christmas tree cheers me, even in the summer heatwave! Ultimately, we will all be forgotten one day. I think the aim is to affect those close to us for the better.

Good luck in the USA! Are you planning to keep writing here?

The guy not the train on the other hand... that was scary. And people's complicity was terrifying. I hope I am not in that situation ever again.

Shows us what lemmings most people have become. Frightening!~and then some. What happened to standing up for others? For doing simply what is right; for protecting innocents from harassment? It's down the drain in too much of the West, a purposeful attack on human rights, dignity, freedom. Ugh . . . .

These days I find it more curious than hurtful. And I totally agree it's both rigid and arbitrary. And yes the Christmas tree was hugely fun - really ridiculous actually - that was its magic. I live in a predominantly Muslim area, and all my neighbours got involved! We need more spontaneous joy. Hoping I can get back to that. I think I will probably keep writing though what comes will be interesting in the new environment!

Good luck in the next chapter of your life. I’ve no doubt you will meet many righteous folks over there. Maybe do a regular podcast to highlight the cultural differences and plot your journey. And keep using “wee” to mean small 💪

Before COVID, I failed to understand how "good" people could get sucked into a totalitarian nightmare. Although I understood in an intellectual sense that it could happen here, it just didn't seem like a realistic possibility. Then, I watched it happen in real time. People lost their minds and gave in to fear. You were one of the few brave ones. Bravo to you!

As I've noted before, a disproportionate number of the people I know who saw clearly and acted bravely were Christians--as evidenced by our speaker list at our Free Speech in Medicine conferences. (I wrote about why this may be the case here, on our Sub: https://pairodocs.substack.com/p/in-defence-of-the-christians).

Good luck in your new adventure, and keep telling the truth. The world needs people like you.

thanks very much and than you for the link to the piece - I found myself nodding along as I was reading. In an interesting twist I don't suppose you've followed the 'No Kings' Protests in the states? As soon as I heard about them I thought they sounded decidedly IN-organic. It was pitched as if 2100 protests against Trump happened 'spontaneously' all over the world - a kind of BLM meets Covid lockdown paranoia. Turns out I was right the co-coordinators were the ACLU and.... this org: https://ffrf.org/about/welcome-to-the-freedom-from-religion-foundation/. The Freedom from Religion Foundation. Now in a very revisionist bit of history telling THEY claim it was the atheists ('freethinkers' as they call themselves) who brought and end to slavery, for prison reform and for care for the mentally ill. What a bait and switch! The language used is very similar to the Humanist Society Scotland and the National Secular Society who have been aggressively trying to shut down Christianity (and Catholicism) for years. Global lockstep. Again. Does make you wonder (I mean I don't wonder I think I know) why they are so keen to shut down Christianity. ALSO Trudeau response to the churches being burnt down (!) 'understandable'!!!!

To piggy back on the quote here: "People lost their minds . . . " I must say~~they are still lost. Here in the States one side of the aisle, I swear, has permanently lost all reason, all sanity, and all heart. My hope is that you find good company here, Ms. Deeming & son; I'm sure you will. What a lovely person you are and brilliant, and virtuous.

I am doing my best, deeply flawed and making mistakes all the time. I fall down, I get back up, I try again! I know America has its own crazy. We will see what the new venture brings!

You are not deeply flawed; there is no evidence of that whatsoever. Yes, America has its own crazy, but many more sane and kind people who are in the grip of truth. Well, about half of the population!!~~ the rest I'm not sure about ha ha. I hope we can stay in touch; I would love to hear more as you get acclimated. Will be on the lookout for posts.

There's an old saying...can't remember who said it....that groups of people lose their sanity all at once (and collectively) but gain it back slowly, one person at a time. That's what I see happening, although it's VERY slow and many people are too embarrassed to admit they were ever not on "team reality."

What a response!~perceptive and helpful; thank you. I'll be looking for the genesis of that saying . . .
